J. Christopher - Volcanique - Pinot Noir

Overview: 100% Pinot Noir. Clones: Pommard, Wadenswil, Coury and Dijon. Sourced from a handful of vineyards in the Dundee Hills AVA. Vines 6 to 35 years of age. All vineyards dry farmed and sustainable. SOIL: Volcanic. VINIFICATION AND AGING: Fruit is 100% destemmed followed by native yeast fermentation. Malolactic fermentation occurs naturally. Wine is aged for 19 months in 25% new oak barriques. No fining or filtration.

Tasting Notes: One of a series of wines named for their soils, this shows a gravelly, grainy foundation, with sleek cranberry-raspberry fruit above. The herbal components are kept in check but are definitely in the mix, along with tannins that show flavors of stem and bark. With ample aeration the fruit explodes into lovely cherry.
