Moraga Estate Red - Bel Air 2016 (750 ml)
The 2016 vintage of Moraga Red tells a story of resilience and excellence in the face of extremes. A continuation of California’s drought years, 2016 brought not only limited rainfall but also the highest temperature Moraga had ever recorded—112°F in June. Though the heat caused significant loss in the vineyard’s most exposed blocks, meticulous vineyard management and cluster selection resulted in a concentrated, small-lot harvest. The resulting wine reflects the full depth and complexity of Moraga’s distinctive Bel Air terroir.
Winemaking:
Each block was hand-harvested, triple sorted (cluster, destemmed berry, and color), and fermented with native yeast. Fermentations were hand-punched up to seven times daily, followed by extended maceration. The wine was aged 21 months in 100% new French oak and then bottle-aged nearly two years prior to release.
Pairing:
Perfect with grilled ribeye, lamb tagine, wild mushroom risotto, or hard aged cheeses like Comté or Manchego.
Points:
Not rated, but described as one of the most terroir-expressive vintages in the estate’s history.
Format / ABV:
750 ml / Approx. 14.5%
