Tyler - Mae Estate Pinot Noir - Sta. Rita Hills
Overview: Owner and Winemaker, Justin Willett was born and raised in Santa Barbara, CA and graduated with a BA in History of Art and Architecture from the University of California-Santa Barbara. In 2005, while working as the Assistant Winemaker at Arcadian Winery, he started Tyler Winery with a focus exclusively on exceptional vineyard sites throughout the Sta. Rita Hills and Santa Maria Valley within Santa Barbara County. Overtime, he has developed relationships with specific growers, who have seen how he works, enjoyed the wines he produces as well as respect his viticultural knowledge of the area and his input of its terroir.
The Tyler Mae Estate is located in the northern end of the Sta. Maria Hills off of Highway 246. The vineyard was planted back in 2016 upon beds of Elder series loam over marine sedimentary rock. The Pinot Noir sits to the eastern side, and also the upper slope of the field, on the darkest, most clay-rich soils on the property which are most conducive to producing exceptional Pinot Noir.
Tasting Notes: Mae Estate is scented of briary fruit and nuances of black tea leaves, lavender, sage, bitter orange and Angostura bitters. The medium-bodied palate has a concentrated core of fragrant, layered fruit, finely chalky tannins and energetic acidity. It has a long, perfumed finish with spicy details.
